How to find Jobs through Public Employment Advertisement

Tuesday, 7 August 20120 comments

Are you looking for job or want to change your current jobs for better pay?  Earlier in job search tips I wrote on where tofind your dream jobs where I highlighted the two major job market arenas, one of it is the public job market. Getting jobs through the public job market is low. Though this is true, you should not ignore these publicized openings, whether you learn about them from contact with employment agencies, search firms, job search sites, adverts in newspapers or in television. Of course you do not know if you are the person the company or the firm is looking for. That means if do not apply, the establishment will not harness labour. The core issue in getting a job in the public job market is that a single job advert can generate 2000 or more resumes for the employer to review. Advert response can easily get lost during processing; whoever reviews the advert response will usually conduct a rapid screening and eliminate all those who do not closely matches the job requirement. You challenge is to get a favourable consideration in the midst of many. How will you make this happen? The most important thing is to send a resumé that reveals that you have what the advertiser has asked for. To do this effectively, I have put down 10 steps you can adopt with keen understanding to see yourself grab the job of your dream.

1. Use the language of the Job Advertisers
The job advert is your greatest clue to what the hiring manager wants to hear. Spend a few minute to analyze the advert. Look for the job title and responsibilities, what industry or trade is the company in? How much experience do you need? What software and hardware experience must you have? Is advance degree necessary? You need to be absolutely certain that you meet the company’s eligibility criteria before application

2. Prepare a covering letter that explains that you can do the job
Covering letter along side with a well constructed resume will be able to speak for you when you are not there. Remember the employer is painting a picture of the ideal candidate and many have to make some concessions to fill the vacancy. Focus only on the highlighted issues. The rest of your background can be shown in your resume.

3. Customize your resume
If you keenly observe the job advert, you will discover salient things that are highlighted there in. It will be helpful if your resume also emphasize the job qualifications that were highlighted in the advert. Look for any acronyms listed in the job description. Incorporate the acronyms in parenthesis in your resume

4. Highlight the Job Title
Rephrase you career objective so that it include the job title as your desired position.

5. Highlight the Industry
If you have experience in this industry, make sure that you include it in the description of your past positions.

6. Highlight Particular Job Skill and responsibilities
Review your own resume to see whether there is a direct match with the job that you want to apply for

7. Think about how quick you should respond to the advert
Always look for instruction or information about the application deadline. Most job advert last for two week from the date of publication. So you often need to check for latest daily job advert on www.latestjobsinfo.com

8. Make reference to the advert in you cover letter.
Always make reference to the advert in your cover letter, and not where you found the advert included publication name and date. The hiring organisation may have run the advert in multiple pages and thus be interested in knowing where you found it. Again, this will convey to the employer the degree of alertness.

9. Always ignore request on salary history
If salary requirements or history are requested, ignore the request or, even better, include a sentence such as “My salary requirements are negotiable and can be discussed at the interview”. Sometimes salary request are used primarily to screen out candidates, but most screeners will not eliminate you from consideration if you do not respond to this request with specific salary after all

10. Write separate focus letters for jobs that are more than one position
If a single advert list several jobs that interest you, write a customized letter in response to each job advertised. If there are two or more attractive positions listed in one advert, also write a separate focused letters for each job and mail them in a few days apart. This is actually important unless there are directives that dual applications are not required
